Product Description
Mexico: The Trick is Living Here is a humorous guide on how to live or retire in Mexico, useful for any extended stay in Mexico. It includes sections on climate and staying comfortable, transportation including riding buses and driving, eating, drinking, grocery shopping, staying healthy and health care, finding doctors, working and making a living in Mexico, getting a residence visa, bringing a car, bringing household items, residency issues unique to Canadians, banking, and international communication. Housing and cost of living are dealt with in a completely unique way that helps the reader to visualize what their lifestyle might be like once they are in Mexico. This section shows Mexico as it is so that the reader can decide for him/herself if Mexico might be a comfortable place for them to live. Key cultural information lets the reader have an insider's view of how it feels to live in Mexico and provides important tips on how to get along and understand people. This is information that takes most people years of experience to discover by trial and error and is one of the best and most unique aspects of Mexico: The Trick is Living Here. A chatty style with funny anecdotes helps the reader to relate to the descriptions and feel comfortable living or traveling in Mexico the way Mexicans do, all the while making the reader laugh about the challenges. The book is full of pointers for the reader's successful transition to Mexico.

this book has everything i would think of asking. julia and me have alot of common . She moved to mexico for her husband. N to find a book that someone else went thru the same thing i will makes me feel like theres hope. She answered everything i would have a doubt about. i bought the book for my husband cuz its getting close to the date that will be deported. N he's heard alot of things, ( he's never lived in the country , but he was born there) and he loved the book cuz it gave him an idea of what he would be looking for once he gets there. This book has given me hope that maybe things will be ok. I am very thankful for julia for writting the book. Its a must buy and to read if you are thinking of moving to mexico and if you have any questions of moving to mexico.

5 out of 5 stars A different approach...   October 9, 2009

I found this book to be an important read for anybody even thinking about moving to Mexico, and the added bonus is that it's fun and entertaining. Keep in mind that it's written for a fairly broad audience, so you'll probably find some parts that aren't directly relevant to your particular circumstances. But it contains valuable guidance for everybody from potential retirees (like me) to people planning to find work there and live on Mexican wages.

There are a lot of sources for information about how to bring your car into Mexico or how to get an FM3 visa, but this book also covers practical things about daily life in Mexico you don't find just anywhere: How people cook their meals, wash their clothes, do their shopping, and take out their trash. Banking, the phone company, water, and transportation. The medical system, insurance companies, and when you need a lawyer. I particularly enjoyed the little insights into Mexican culture and tips on social etiquette.

Most importantly, this book is balanced and objective. It doesn't attempt to "sell" the reader on living in Mexico. Good or bad, the facts are laid out and you can decide yourself whether or not Mexico is the right place for you.
