Amazon.com Product Description Watch movies, listen to MP3 CDs, or review camcorder footage--all from one portable device. Initial Technology's IDM-1731 puts a world of entertainment at your fingertips. The built-in seven-inch widescreen TFT (thin-film-transistor) LCD displays favorite movies in their native aspect ratios, and the player's onboard antiskip protection--a surprisingly rare feature in portable DVD players--paves the way for media enjoyment during more active uses. What's in the Box DVD player, full-function remote control, AC adapter, high-capacity rechargeable lithium battery, composite-video interconnect, analog audio interconect, and a user's manual. Spare batteries are available by contacting Initial's customer service; headphones are not included.

Owned for about 6 years, used often, still works! March 20, 2010 Math Guru (Denver, CO, USA) I am impressed by this little machine! I actually won it years ago at my junior high prom (2003) in a raffle, used it as my main DVD player through college (and I didn't have the most gentle roommates -- mostly used plugged into a TV and plugged in to an outlet), several roadtrips, and even a trip overseas.
I'm currently between housing and am using it as my little player to watch movies on before bed.
It's just starting to show signs of a little wear and tear -- I sometimes have to monkey with it a bit before getting a CD to load, but that's a very recent problem.
I have been thoroughly happy with this little machine and think you will, too. Enjoy!
Initial plays CD+G (karaoke) format disks September 22, 2009 Craig Marco Polo I like these 'Initial' dvd players because they play CD+G (karaoke) format disks; most other brands do not (Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic do not play CD+G). I own three Initial dvd players. The most recent Initial model 1731 dvd player arrived broken from seller DiscountJungle. Kudos to DiscountJungle for responding promptly and sending a prepaid shipping label for the return. I have usually had good luck with Initial; so I recommend this product and DiscountJungle.
Does not have video input! January 14, 2009 K. Hardie (Monticello, MN) This product says that it has video input, however it does not! I even called initial and they said it does not. If you dont need it for video input, then it's a good product.
Big Disapointment April 19, 2007 N. Ainsworth (Highland, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When I first purchased this portable DVD player I was quite pleased with it. The picture was clear and the sound came thru nicely. However, after just 6 months of use, it just stopped working. It keeps telling me "no disc". It has only been used by my daughter while sitting in the car so it has not been dropped or abused in anyway.
Now I know why it was on sale. I won't buy this brand again.

Sorry to say, my husband has not even unpacked this DVD player! He wasn't too happy that our daughter bought it. We both told him to hurry up & make up his mind whether we should return it, but he hasn't done that either...
Sorry I can't do better than this.
