Amazon.com Product Description The ultra-affordable Apex PD500 portable DVD player features a five-inch standard (4:3 aspect ratio) thin-film-resistor LCD, and onboard Active Full-Screen function magnifies widescreen images to utilize the full LCD, eliminating the black bars that normally accompany widescreen programs. he player also offers built-in stereo speakers for headphones-free listening and compatibility with DVD-Video, VCD/SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3-encoded discs, and JPEG and Kodak Picture CDs. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (through a .125-inch minijack-to-Toslink optical cable, not supplied) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. S-video and composite-video outputs simplify hookup with a home TV. The composite-video and stereo analog audio outputs are switchable as inputs so you can use the PD500 as a monitor for a camcorder, VCR, or gaming console if you wish. Playback options include frame-by -frame slow motion, 2x and 4x zoom, and multiple-angle viewing (with applicable discs). not bad for the price October 10, 2008 the People (Texas) I bought this product on clearance at Sears about 5 years ago. It still works great and has a very clear picture, although I prefer to use earbuds for better sound. Don't know why so many other people got such a short lifespan out of theirs, although I'm extremely gentle with portable electronics...I know they can stop working if you drop them once or even jolt them slightly. It works great for power outages to have something to watch, but the battery life is only about 1.5 hours per charge (not long enough to watch a movie). Luckily I was able to find a spare battery pack a couple of years ago.
Everyone in the family can use one of these! January 28, 2008 Verna Johnson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my grandson and enjoyed it myself then when my granddaughter was ill she could watch "The Wiggles" all by herself and it plays my picture CD's and CD's and DVD's. You don't get better than this present...and it has all the necessary cables with it. Wow!
Sorry, but I don't agree! September 19, 2006 Valerie Giglio (Shawnee, Oklahoma USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought mine for $215.00 almost 4 years ago, and it still works GREAT! I was a long-haul truck driver, and I needed something that didn't take up too much space. I used it on my truck for 2 years, and it worked well even when the truck was moving (CDs, you know). I especially like the fact that.it will play PAL as well as NTSC DVDs. I'm home now, and use it (still) as a backup machine. However I never used the battery, never even took it out of the box, so I can't testify as to it. I LOVE THIS MACHINE !!
Not worth it July 24, 2006 K. Fallen (Richmond, VA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Died after a few months at which time the battery only lasted an hour, not worth it.
Poor Service July 10, 2006 ergrandma (Eagle River, WI) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The battery never held a charge. Sent message to customer service and never received a response. Wouldn't recommend this product or company.
